Rose's Angel: Chapter 9

Rated PG-13
© 1999 Holly @ Roseslay@aol.com
based on some characters
and situations originated by James Cameron Jack hovered next to Rose while she was unpacking her things. He could smell the faint scent of her perfume. As he watched her unpack, his eyes took in her beauty. He longed to be able to reach out and touch her face, to kiss her lips, to make love to her.

'It was a long trip,' she thought, and she was glad to be back. The job with Mr. Collins and Senator Smith was a true blessing. She never would have been able to afford her own apartment without it. Now, she had to decide what to do next. She really enjoyed working for the Senator, but now that the hearings were over. She felt her job was done. 'It is time for me to move on,' she thought. She had saved the money she received from pawning "that hideous" ring. Traveling money was not a problem---where to go next was.

"Why cant I be like you, Jack, Head out to the horizon whenever I feel like it?" she had said to him on theTitanic.

"You can Rose, you are free now. You just have to learn to make your own decisions." Jack said to her.

Rose felt him near. "Hello, Jack," she whispered. "I don't know how to make any decisions, they were always made for me," she said tearfully.

"Rose, I told you there is nothing to fear, and you do know how to make decisions." She felt Jack say in her soul.

"Hello, Jack. I changed my mind."

It was music to his ears when he heard her say that on the bow of the Titanic. He would remember that day for the rest of his life. He kept thinking that; he had to remember he was dead. 'Maybe some things a person should not get used to,' he thought. Every moment he spent with her was forever etched in his memory. He yearned to be back on Titanic with her. The tears welled up in his eyes thinking about it. He felt extremely sorry for himself.

"No, Jack! No more!" she hissed. "We have felt sorry for ourselves for what could never be for too long. It is time we accept our fate. I have a promise to fulfill. If I continue on this way I never will. It is time we come to terms with the hand fate has dealt us."

"Tomorrow morning, I am getting up and going to work, to thank Mr. Collins for giving me a job. Then I am getting on the next train out of here. It's time to begin a wonderful adventure called life. I need to make it count!" With that she headed into the bathroom to take a much-needed bath.

Once again, Rose had taken Jack by surprise. 'She is really the strong one she just doesn't know it yet,' he thought. She was right. He had to accept where he was now. It didn't help him to feel sorry for himself, and certainty did not help her. Once again he had let her down when she needed him, because of his own self-pity.

Rose opened the bathroom door and said sternly "Stop it, Jack Dawson."With that she slammed the door.

Jack laughed and said, "There is that fire again."
